Using Non-Toxic Cookware
You may have heard this before, but toxic cookware is everywhere, and we shouldn’t be using it. Unfortunately cookware like Teflon or non-stick pans contain a chemical compound known as PFA’s (also known as a forever chemicals) that do not break down in the body or environment. Those little scrapes at the bottom of your pan are being cooked into your food and then ingested. PFA’s have been linked to a number of health and environmental issues, such as certain forms of cancer, infertility, and hormone disruption. Aluminum is also a tricky one as it is a heavy metal. When heated up, aluminum may seep into your food. At all costs avoid heating up or eating your food in plastic. When heated up plastic leaches harmful toxins and then once again, becomes ingested by you.
If this at all seems stressful, don’t allow it to be. There are a number of easy switches that you can make one swap at a time. For cookware, try using pans made out of clay, stainless steel, copper or cast iron pots and pans. Try switching your cooking utensils to wood or stainless steel. Opt for glass tupperware when possible and try to avoid that microwave. Heat your food up in a stainless steel pot on the stove top instead. Try to make sure everything that touches your food before you consume it is made from a material that will not leach any toxin into your food.
These are small but mighty steps in the right direction.
